Shockwave Therapy

Woman with hip painAre you suffering from chronic pain? At PGA Chiropractic Health Center, we want to make sure that we have the options that are right from you. No matter what your concerns may be, you can find your solution with our experienced team.

Acoustic waves generated by the Shockwave trigger biological effects which lead to faster and long-term healing and regeneration of the tissue. Shockwave therapy (SWT) covers a wide range of indications to include Hip Pain, Chronic Tendinopthy, and heel spurs or calcifications to name a few. Shockwave therapy is performed by Chiropractic and Physical Therapy team members.

The soft tissues of the body begin to form scar tissue when an injury occurs. Shockwave therapy will agitate the body’s tissues, bringing more blood circulation to the area and breaking up adhesions. Many of our patients have found success with Shockwave sessions as it can help to:

  • Reverse chronic inflammation
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Break down bone spurs
  • Release trigger points
  • And More!

Real Patients, Real Results

We recently welcomed a medical doctor to the practice as a patient who had been having chronic pain for years. After trying a ton of different modalities to no avail, she gave Shockwave a try. For the first time in years, she’s happy to report her pain levels are improving, and she credits gentle, focused Shockwave for her results thus far.

FAQ

How often will I need to come in for shockwave therapy?

We’ll evaluate you on a case-by-case basis to determine what’s right for you. You’ll receive our recommendations based on our experience. Most of our patients have it less than once a week, though some come in for as many as three sessions each week. Each session is typically three minutes long.

How long will I experience the benefits of shockwave therapy?

The total amount of sessions we recommend will depend on your particular case. Once we have maximized the benefits you can get, we’ll be able to move on to stretching and other options that we offer.

How is this therapy different from cupping?

Both cupping and Shockwave are great treatments for helping with soft tissue and muscle injuries. In Shockwave Therapy, the tissue of the area being treated is compressed and a vibration travels through it for about 15 seconds, which helps to break down scar tissue and calcifications. In cupping, soft tissue is pulled away from the bone to improve circulation and reduce tension.

Is therapy painful?

While it should never cause intense pain whatsoever, Shockwave Therapy can bring tenderness to areas treated, especially when the problem area is already inflamed. As the inflammation goes down, the session will be less painful. After your treatment, there shouldn’t be any issues though you may notice slight soreness that will go away shortly.
