This high-impact and hot fitness craze isn’t for the faint of heart, but the rewards of CrossFit can be great: better overall health and fitness. You just want to make sure you keep yourself safe while cranking up the cardio.
Leave Your Ego at the Door
As someone who does CrossFit, my first piece of advice is to leave your ego at the door. Everyone will be better than you, and if you’re not new to it, there still will be someone better than you. So don’t worry about what the CrossFitter next to you can do; just focus on improving your fitness.
Go at Your Own Pace
While you may feel like it’s a competition, it’s best to go at your own pace. You can’t work out if you’re injured, and if you go too fast, you will most likely be injured. This is often the case if you’re not using good technique.
Follow Your Coach’s Instruction
When it comes to technique, you should follow your coach’s instruction. But even before that, it’s important to check out your coach’s certification and watch them move and train. You want to be sure your coach is qualified, smart, not injured and moves well.
Modify Movements
If you’ve never done a particular movement before or are unable to do it perfectly, you should ask the coach to modify that movement. By doing so, you are less likely to get injured. If you do get injured, it’s important that you not work through any injury-related pain that you feel. When you’re working out, you’re already taxing your body. The last thing you want to do is make an injury worse by working through it.
Your focus should be on mobility and getting stronger, not competing with the person next to you. You also should aim to use as good a technique as possible.
If you haven’t tried CrossFit yet and are interested, I recommend Gardens Crossfit as the best CrossFit box in Palm Beach County. All of the coaches there have competed. They all are moderately injury-free, move well and focus on technique.
